Martian Smartwatches Invade AT&T
Martian Watches, developer of our second favorite smartwatch of 2013, the Martian Passport, just brought the emerging smartwatch niche a little more into the mainstream by landing a lucrative distribution deal with AT&T.
The official brick and mortar launch took place on Friday, September 13, 2013, at AT&T’s flagship retail location in Chicago. AT&T’s website already reflects the collaboration offering various Martian Smartwatch models for immediate purchase, including our favorite the Passport, the Victory, and the G2G. Prices start at $249 and top out at $299.
There are currently two categories of smartwatches available to consumers: those designed to function independently and run apps and those that function primarily as an extension of the user’s phone. Current Martian Smartwatch models fall into the latter category and serve to enhance the interoperability and value of your smartphone. And, it is in this arena that Martian technology truly shines, providing a wearable, ergonomic alternative to the traditional headset or hands-free kit and the ability to receive alerts and notifications conveniently right on your wrist. Simple and invaluable.
With Best Buy having lead the way via Kickstarter phenomenon Pebble, and now AT&T offering Martian Smartwatch up-sells to its service customers, we expect more retail chains to shortly follow suit and begin stocking smartwatches as the market continues to explode. In the mean time, if you are an AT&T customer, consider picking up one of these gorgeous accessories the next time you upgrade your smartphone.
